Each Saturday from January through April 2012, I hosted an hour-long radio show featuring letters on KRUI. Guests from the University of Iowa writing programs brought in letters, GChats, poems, secret online posts, and all manner of other correspondence. Then I played music. The archived interviews can be downloaded through links posted here.
My Fulbright journalism research project examined how Filipino fast food began, and how it's changed Filipino eating habits. My Tumblr archived photos of the food I ate, and observations of what I came across. I was in Manila from May through December 2011, and I'll be returning frequently.
Kamay at Puso Fundraising Events
I served as the East Coast Fundraising Coordinator for the nonprofit organization Kamay at Puso. I planned shows, silent auctions, and other events to fundraise for the Madapdap community of toxic waste survivors in the Philippines. Kamay at Puso provides kids with cerebral palsy with regular physical therapy and helps train their parents in various livelihood projects. Please let me know if you'd like to help plan something fun to send the Madapdap folks some love.
We Are Not The Enemy
I founded a photo blog in response to the anti-gay initiatives of 2008. Dan Savage really liked it and mentioned it a few times in his own blog, so hundreds of folks sent in their photos, showing who they were and how they're working toward full equality. firstname.lastname@example.org.
